Eriz Marcus Anthony and Lee Wynne Arrested Over Fatal Shooting of 6-Year-Old Aiden Leos

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 6-year-old Aiden Leos during what appeared to be a freeway road rage killing in Orange, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has announced.

According to a CHP statement issued Sunday, Eriz Marcus Anthony, 24, and Lee Wynne, 23, were apprehended by officers at their home in Costa Mesa, California. The pair is "expected to be charged with murder."

In the release, seen by Newsweek, CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray said: "On behalf of Border Division Chief Omar Watson and the Santa Ana Area, we are deeply grateful for the professionalism and tireless commitment of our investigators who have worked on this case from day one to find those responsible for Aiden's death."

She continued: "While these arrests will not ease the pain of a mother's loss, my hope is for the Leos family to have some peace of mind and to rest assured the CHP will work with the Orange County District Attorney to bring justice for Aiden."

Chief Watson thanked the local community for offering tips during the investigation as well as for their outpouring of grief over Leos' death.

He added: "The Department has been in regular contact with the victim's family and I assure you, like us, are committed to seeing justice served."

A manhunt for the suspects was launched after Aiden was fatally shot between 7:55 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. local time on May 21.

Joanna Cloonan, Aiden's mother, had been driving her silver Chevrolet Sonic when she approached the 55 Freeway with her son in the rear passenger seat.

Authorities say she was then involved in a road-rage incident over a perceived unsafe lane change with the occupants of a white Volkswagen station wagon.

An occupant from the Volkswagen allegedly fired at least one round from a pistol into the back of the Chevrolet Sonic, which struck and killed Aiden.

The announcement of the arrests came after a memorial service for Aiden was held Saturday at the Calvary Chapel Yorba Linda.

Aiden's family spoke at the memorial and described the 6-year-old as joyful and kind.

Joanna Cloonan said: "Everywhere we went he would greet people with a 'hello I'm Aiden, what's your name?'"

Alexis Cloonan, Aiden's sister, added: "I think of all the memories we shared together, all the times we laughed and smiled, all the times he comforted me when I was sad. My brother was an example of God's gift to the world."

Following the tragic killing, a reward for information related to Aiden's killing rose to $500,000 on Thursday, according to the website aiden-reward.com, which listed information about the shooting and how to submit details.

Two GoFundMe pages were created to help Aiden's parents following his death. The page supporting Aiden's father Jose has raised more than $30,000 and the fundraiser for Joanna Cloonan has gathered more than $340,000 as of Monday morning.
