NEW DELHI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced that the Centre will provide Covid-19 vaccine free for all adults from June 21 onwards.

The Centre's new policy comes days after Supreme Court (SC) slammed the ongoing vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group and called it "arbitrary and irrational."

Twitter remained divided over whom to give credit for this announcement, while many hailed PM, others claimed Modi yielded to pressure by SC and opposition.

'Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik took the first step, Modi reciprocated'

'Credit to SC and Justice Chandrachud'

'Credit to Rahul Gandhi'

'Victory of opposition and judiciary'

Point taken

Quite right

'It is a masterstroke by Modi'

'Let's prioritize students for vaccination'

Besides free vaccine for all, there were several other highlights from Modi's speech, like subtly blaming state governments for the state of vaccination in the country.

'Modi's message was loud and clear'

'States mismanaged'

'Modi should own up failure to manage disastrous second wave'

Free vaccine is not enough, give compensation to families who lost bread-earners.
