Alia Bhatt to Ranbir Kapoor: 6 Bollywood celebrities' spaces that have been designed by Gauri Khan

Over the years, Gauri Khan has refurbished the spaces of many heavy-hitters in Bollywood, right from Alia Bhatt’s quirky vanity van to Ranbir Kapoor’s Mumbai home, and most recently, her husband Shah Rukh Khan’s office space. Khan’s Mumbai-based flagship design studio, Gauri Khan Designs, launched in 2017 and “is [her] platform to realise [her] passion with those who seek the one-offs, and unique concepts in Interior Design,” reveals her official website. The celebrity interior designer’s signature style combines contemporary luxury with a personalised ethos, a pattern you’ll also spot in many of the spaces listed below. Wavering from her usual design aesthetic, Khan opted for a young, millennial-friendly vibe for Alia Bhatt’s vanity van to match the energy of its owner. Reflective glass panels, purple disco lighting, and plenty of artworks and illustrations on the walls characterise Bhatt’s edgy on-the-go home. 

Ranbir Kapoor bought a home in Bandra's Vastu Pali Hill back in 2016 and roped in Khan to give it a facelift. Khan even shared glimpses of the living area on her Instagram page, where you can spot a regal velvet couch against minimal, creamy walls. A modern oversized light fixture stands out in contrast to Kapoor's traditional rug, and coffee table books and a candle stand adorn the centre table. The area showcases Khan’s knack for seamlessly blending a diverse range of decor styles.

Most recently, Khan revamped the office space of  Shah Rukh Khan’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment, adding a new 5,000sqft lounge section to the eight-storey building with custom-made furniture from Gauri Khan Designs and many personalised touches. “The central artery of this space has a very lounge-like vibe, with a rug, coffee table, a chess set, leather sofa and an eye-catching mural,” Khan shared with Vogue in a recent interview. “Here, the typical office has been re-envisioned as a fresh, casual, warm and homely place for multiple teams to meet or take a break from work,” she added.

“I wanted to create a warm, inviting space to retreat to after a hectic day,” Khan once told Vogue of Malhotra’s minimalistic bachelor pad in Mumbai. You’ll see the designer’s love for wooden accents and neutral hues throughout his home, but also elements that echo the owner’s personality, like the posters of Malhotra's favourite films, which appear in the lobby. 

Back in 2018, Gauri Khan re-did Jacqueline Fernandez's favourite at-home spot, a nook that sits off her living room and opens up to a sprawling view. "Just as [we] can change up our own look by pairing our outfits with different shoes, bags, scarves, belts, etc, our home can get a makeover too, by using cushions, wallpapers, some funky artwork... an important style complement, that are striking and visible, when decorating,” the designer shared on her Instagram page, along with images of Fernandez’s quirky refurbished reading corner. 

Parts of the filmmaker's Bandra penthouse—the sprawling terrace and the kids’ nursery—were given a makeover by Khan not too long ago. While the former was transformed into a contemporary space in muted colours and wooden accents, the latter was made into a cheerful, vibrant area featuring colourful cribs, jungle-inspired decor, stuffed toys, foam carpets, mini chairs, printed cushions, and more.
