Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: As Covid-19 continues to recede across the country, there is a North-South divide in the failing cases. The North Indian states are witnessing a steady decline in compared to Maharashtra and Southern States. The highest downfall of seven day rolling average of daily cases in Haryana has declined at an average rate of 8.9 percent each day. The decline has been high in Rajasthan (8.5%), Delhi (8.2%), Bihar (8.1%), UP (7.8%) and Uttarakhand (7.6%).
Whereas in other South Indian, the decline in cases was more gradual ranging from 2.7% in Tamil Nadu to 4.2% in Andhra Pradesh. The difference between the rates of decline in the north and south India is too stark for it to be just a statistical quirk, a report in The Times of India said. However, experts say that the stark difference is due to leakier Covid reporting system in North India might be behind the reason for divide.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi plans to begin clinical trials of Bharat Biotech’s Covid-19 vaccine “Covaxin” on children, ANI cited sources as saying. AIIMS Patna has been already been conducting a Paediatric clinical trial of Covaxin after Bharat Biotech gained approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to begin paediatric clinical studies on May 11. At AIIMS Patna, trials for children aged 12 to 18 have begun. Following this, trials will be conducted for the age groups of 6-12 years and 2-6 years, Dr Prabhat Kumar Singh, Director, AIIMS, Patna, told the news agency. Earlier, VK Paul, Member (Health), Niti Aayog had said, “Covaxin has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), for Phase II/III clinical trials in the age group of 2 to 18 years.”

Experts Advise Rajasthan Govt Against Lifting Lockdown at Once | The Rajasthan government Sunday said medical experts have suggested that coronavirus lockdown in the state should not be eased at once. Any decision on easing the lockdown curbs should be taken keeping in view the possibility of spread of the coronavirus infection, experts have said, according to a statement. The suggestions were put up before the state cabinet during a meeting late Sunday night.
Bengal Reports 7,002 New Covid-19 Cases, 107 Deaths | West Bengal's Covid-19 tally rose to 14,26,132 on Sunday as 7,002 more people tested positive for the infection, while 107 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 16,259, a health bulletin said. North 24 Parganas district reported the highest number of fresh fatalities at 34, followed by 23 in Kolkata. Fifty-three of the deaths were due to comorbidities where Covid-19 was incidental. As many as 15,882 more people were cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 13,74,419.
Assam reported 2,228 new Covid- 19 cases and 37 fresh fatalities on Sunday with caseload rising to 4,34,942. The death toll in the state increased to 3,658 while the number of active cases is currently is 49,518. Six deaths were reported from Tinsukia, four from Sonitpur, three each from Kamrup Metro, Cachar, and Nagaon, and two each from Darrang Sivasagar and Udalguri. Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Goalpara Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong, and Lakhimpur reported one death each.

Markets, Offices to Re-open in Delhi from Today | Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that markets will re-open in the national capital and metro services will be resumed from June 7 with conditions. "Lockdown will continue with more relaxation in other activities. Shops in markets and malls to be opened on an odd-even basis from Monday. The shops will be allowed to open from 10 am to 8 pm. The private offices will be allowed to function with 50 per cent staff," Kejriwal said.
Gautam Buddh Nagar Relaxes Covid Curfew from Today | The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has announced relaxation in Covid curfew after over a month, allowing shops and markets outside containment zones to remain open from 7 am to 7 pm from Monday to Friday. However, educational institutes, including coaching centres, will remain closed while the Covid curfew will be in force over the weekends, it said.
At AIIMS Patna, trials for children aged 12 to 18 have begun. Following this, trials will be conducted for the age groups of 6-12 years and 2-6 years, Dr Prabhat Kumar Singh, Director, AIIMS, Patna, told the news agency. The trial will be conducted on 525 healthy volunteers across different sites across the country and the vaccine will be given by intramuscular route in two doses at day 0 (the first day) and day 28, according to the Health Ministry.

Delhi recorded the lowest positivity rate at 0.5 percent as the national capital reported 381 new instances of the COVID-19 infection, the lowest since March 15. Also, 34 more people have succumbed to the disease in a day, the lowest in around two months. These new fatalities pushed the death toll here to 24,591.
