Mapusa municipality forms various committees in first council meeting

Various committees including the standing committee and market committee were formed in the first special council meeting of the new Mapusa Municipality on Monday. Viraj Phadke has been elected unopposed as chairman of the market committee. 

After elections, the first council met under MMC chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar. Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza, vice chairperson Chandrashekar Benkar and chief officer Clen Madeira were also present. All 20 councillors were present for the meeting.

The standing committee was constituted wherein Shubhangi Vaigankar is the chairman, vice chairperson Chandrashekhar Benkar was appointed as ex-officio member while Tarak Arolkar, Sushant Harmalkar and Shashank Narvekar were appointed as members.

During the meeting five subject committees were also elected which included Municipal market committee wherein Viraj Phadke was elected as chairman and Ashirwad Khorjuvekar, Sainath Raul, Barbara Carasco and Kamal D’Souza as members.

Ashirwad Khorjuvekar was appointed as chairman of public works, sanitation and drainage committee and members nominated are Kayle Braganza, Viraj Phadke, Tarak Arolkar and Anvi Korgaonkar.

While Kayle Braganza is chairman of the planning development committee and members are Sushant Harmalkar, Sainath Raul, Priya Mishal and Sudhir Kandolkar.

Environment, garden, preservation of open spaces committee is headed by Kishori Korgaonkar  as chairman and members are Swapnil Shirodkar, Priya Mishal, Vikas Arolkar and Nutan Bicholkar.

While for lighting of public streets, places, public receptions, ceremonies, fairs, entertainment and library committee Vikas Arolkar was elected as chairman and members are Kayle Braganza, Kishori Korgaonkar, Barbara Carrasco and Anand Bhaidkar.   

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar said that various subject committees as well as the standing committee were formed during the council meeting without any objection and was held peacefully.
