APD investigating 2 'likely' homicides
Jun. 6—ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police launched two new homicide investigations Sunday morning, including one involving a motorcyclist who crashed after being shot.
Gilbert Gallegos, a spokesman with the Albuquerque Police Department, said officers responded to the crash at the intersection of Broadway and Coal.
"The motorcyclist appears to have suffered a gunshot prior to the crash," Gallegos said in an email. "Homicide detectives are investigating."
The second investigation involves a death on the West Side.
Gallegos said officers discovered a body in a home when they responded to a disturbance in the 7300 block of Blue Avena S.W. The address is near Unser and Arenal.
"Detectives are responding to the scene to start an investigation," Gallegos said.
He did not say why foul play is suspected in that case or provide an age or gender for either of the victims. It's unclear if investigators have a suspect in either case.
If both deaths end up being ruled homicides, they will be the 51st and 52nd in Albuquerque this year.
