The State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) has released the result of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) scheme-2020 in form of merit lists. This exam of Class VIII students was conducted on December 20, 2020. The merit list of NMMS -2020 comprise the name and details of 2,210 students selected for the scholarship.

While 1,398 students in the merit list belong to general category, the students of SC and BC categories are 552 and 221, respectively. Total 39 students with physical handicaps are selected for the scholarship in the state.

Ludhiana district students has bagged maximum, 229 scholarships, followed by 159 in Hoshiarpur, 158 in Amritsar, 170 in Jalandhar. Pathankot district has least, 50 students in the merit list.

The NMMS is a central sector scheme to provide scholarships for meritorious students of classes IX to XII of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at Class VIII and encourage them to continue their study and complete secondary stage.

Under the scheme, one lakh fresh scholarships are given to the students in the country every year for study in a state government, government-aided and local body schools.

An amount of Rs 12,000 per student per annum is provided to the students as scholarship under the scheme. A students whose parental income from all sources is not more than Rs 1,50,000 per annum are eligible to avail the scholarships. The student must have minimum of 55 per cent marks in Class VII examination for appearing in selection test for award of scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC and ST students).
