As lockers to keep ashes at the cremation ground here have gone full to their capacity, the management of the cremation ground with the support of some social activists today sent the ashes to Haridwar for immersion.
Notably, the management of the cremation ground had repeatedly appealed to the families of those not claiming the ashes to come or they would perform the rituals and immerse the ashes in the Ganga. Krishan Kumar Shammi Tehria, president, Shiv Dhaam Management Committee, Jalalabad Road, here, said, “We have today sent some ashes for immersion in the Ganga. The ashes were lying here for past sometime. We had made several appeals, but to no avail. The ashes will be immersed after performing all rituals by followers of a religious sect.”
He said recently Covid deaths had increased. “Some bags containing ashes are still hanging in the open. Earlier, people used to come within two weeks to collect the ashes, but now people are not showing up even after a month,” said a local.
