Nikki Haley plans Israel swing

Nikki Haley — former U.S. ambassador to the U.N., and South Carolina governor — is headed later this week to Israel, where she'll tour an Iron Dome air-defense location, and meet with top government and defense officials.

Driving the news: Haley, who is continuing policy work through her Stand For America, was invited by Pastor John Hagee to join the Christians United for Israel mission.

She and the evangelical pastor have known one another for years, and she keynoted Christians United for Israel’s annual Washington Summit 2018.

On the political front, Haley has been traveling the country doing events and raising money for 2022 House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Sunday called for more public-private cooperation on cyber defenses and said U.S. adversaries already are capable of using cyber intrusions to shut down the U.S. power grid. Granholm noted, without mentioning the company by name, that Colonial Pipeline Co. was hit in May with a crippling cyberattack by a ransomware group. “The bottom line is, people, whether you’re private sector, public sector, whatever, you shouldn’t be paying ransomware attacks, because it only encourages the bad guys,” she said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. officials on Sunday ratcheted up pressure on companies and foreign adversaries to fight cybercriminals, and said President Joe Biden is considering all options, including a military response, to counter the growing threat. The Biden administration is looking at "all of the options," to defend the country against ransomware criminals, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said in an interview on Sunday, when asked if military action was being considered. Raimondo did not detail what those options could look like, but said the topic will be on the agenda when the president meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin this month.

Police arrested two teenagers and an 18-year-old man in connection with the killing of a man from Israel who was killed while visiting Baltimore. Efraim Gordon, 31, was shot and killed on May 3, in the 3700 block of Fords Lane in northwest Baltimore, police said. Family and friends said Gordon was visiting from Israel to attend his cousin's wedding. City police said Friday evening that detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and William Clinton III, 18, all of Baltimore.
