Robeson County Sheriff's Office, ATF investigate fatal Tuesday shooting

Jun. 5—LUMBERTON — The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting the investigation of the recent discovery of a woman found shot in her car in Maxton; and the sheriff is asking for witnesses to speak up.

Robeson County sheriff's deputies responded about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a person shot at Elrod Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Maxton, according to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office. Deputies found 34-year-old Alena Hull, of Pembroke, deceased in her vehicle.

The Robeson County Sheriff's Office Homicide and Criminal Investigations Divisions and the ATF are investigating the case.

Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins urges people with information in the case to come forward.

"Investigators are following great leads in this case but we need potential witnesses to step forward and do the right thing," a statement by Wilkins reads in part.

"This family deserves answers, and we know others are aware of what occurred. I am asking those that witnessed this cowardly act and are withholding information to come forward now or face the potential of becoming an accessory," the sheriff also wrote in his statement.
