The active caseload Covid-19 in the twin-city of Mira-Bhayandar has dipped below 500 after record 100 days. 69 more people tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Although the latest additions have catapulted the total number of cumulative positive patients to 49,329, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) health department data also shows that a total of 47,548 patients have recovered from the virus, taking the active caseload to 493.

This is the lowest count of active cases in the twin-city since February 24 2021, when 496 patients were under treatment for the infection. Earlier, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) had reported 518 new cases on a single day on April 24, even as active cases hit a record high of 4,527 patients, who were either undergoing treatment at various public and private health care facilities or in isolation at homes.

“Yes, the cases are going down but that does not mean we should become careless. As the twin-city is about to get some relief from lockdown, our responsibilities have increased and we have to be more careful. Religiously following the COVID appropriate behavior as it is the need of the hour”, appealed MBMC chief, Dilip Dhole.

While the recovery rate has improved further to 96.39 percent, the death count has now reached 1,288 with the overall case fatality rate continues at 2.6 percent. The MBMC has collected 14,025 samples in the past five days even as the total number now stands at 3,62, 862, an official said.

MBMC at Level 3

In accordance with the state governments five level plan to initiate the 'Break the chain' process, the MBMC will fall under Level 3 in which areas will be required to have a positivity rate between 5% and 10% or oxygen beds occupancy, more than 40%. As per orders promulgated by deputy collector of Thane district, Dr. Shivaji Patil, the MBMC along with civic bodies of - Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Kulgaon-Badlapur, Shahpur and Murbad have been classified as separate single administrative unit
