NEW DELHI: India on Saturday reported 1,20,529 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 58 days. Over 3,380 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, the Union health and family welfare ministry said.
The total tally of infections stood at 2,86,94,879 and the death toll at 3,44,082, data from the health ministry showed.
On a sustained downward slope, the active caseload further decreasesd to 15,55,248; less than 2 Lakh since 9 successive days. In the last 24 hours, active cases decreased by 80,745.
According to the health ministry, more than 2.67 crore persons have recovered from the infection across the country so far and 1,97,894 patients recovered during last 24 hours.
More daily recoveries than daily new cases have been reported for 23
consecutive days. There has been a steady continuous increase in the national recovery rate with 93.38% reported today.
The weekly positivity rate currently stands at 6.89% while the daily positivity rate further diped to 5.78%, less than 10% for 12 consecutive days.
The health ministry said that a total of 22,78,60,317 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 36,50,080 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
According to the
Indian Council of Medical Research, 36,11,74,142 samples have been tested up to June 4 for Covid-19. Of these 20,84,421 samples were tested on Friday.
In the last three weeks, India has recorded over 85,000 deaths. India registered record fatalities due to Covid-19 on May 21 with 4,529 deaths -- the highest from Covid infection in any country in a day since the coronavirus outbreak was reported in China's
Wuhan in December 2019. It surpassed 4,468 deaths in the US on January 12, and earlier 4,211 in
Brazil on April 6.
