- Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have given their first major sit-down interview to The Telegraph.
- From Prince Philip's funeral to Harry and Meghan, the Wessexes spoke candidly.
- On the Sussexes departure from the firm and their explosive interview earlier this year, Prince Edward said: "Oprah who?" Sophie laughed: "What interview?"
The royal family said they were "saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan" following the couple's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex detailed everything from their struggle with their mental health to the institution's failure to intervene, even calling them out for their comments about Archie's skin colour.
Now, three months after the tell-all, Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, are speaking out about the CBS special to The Telegraph. "Oprah, who?" Prince Edward responded. "What interview?" quizzed Sophie with a laugh.
"You know, if you're not into chat shows, there's no reason why you should know who she is," Sophie added. "Certainly not in this country, anyway."
The royal said of Harry and Meghan's decision to step down and having to increase their own royal duties: "Inevitably, the spotlight and the focus falls on younger members as time goes on. We've plodded along doing what we're doing, hopefully doing it well. And then, all of a sudden, there's a bit of a hiatus, and things have changed a bit.
"Naturally, the media are looking for people to fill the so-called void. But you know, we have been doing this for what feels like a pretty long time!"
Sophie, who also spoke of the royals losing Prince Philip earlier this year, reassured: "We are still a family no matter what happens, we always will be."
