The state government has extended the ongoing curfew, which was supposed to end at 7 am on Monday, by another week till 7 am on June 14.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday announced that the government has decided to extend the ongoing statewide curfew till 7 am on June 14.

Sawant said the timings for the operation of essential item shops will now be from 7 am to 3 pm during the curfew period. He said that in addition, shops or stores selling items related to house/building repairs, monsoon preparedness or rain protection and stationery items will be allowed to remain open.

In order to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission, a statewide curfew has been imposed by the government since May 9.

Initially, after imposing a four-day lockdown from April 29 to May 3, the Sawant-led government had imposed lockdown-like restrictions from May 3 to May 8. Later, the government imposed a 15-day curfew from May 9 to May 23. The curfew was further extended till May 31 and then till June 7.

Though the curfew will remain in force till June 14, the state government has decided to open educational institutions from June 7. The teaching and non-teaching staff has been asked to attend work and continue with the online teaching, as the pandemic situation has been improving in the state.
