Indore: Police detained two men from Rajasthan while carrying Rs 30 lakh in a scooter in Vijay Nagar on Saturday night. They could not show any receipt or any document that permitted them to carry the amount so the police believe that the money is part of a hawala operation. The police have informed the income tax department to know the source of the cash.
Vijay Nagar police station in-charge Tahjib Kaji said that a team was deployed on the Vijay Nagar Square on the instruction from senior officers. During the checking drive, two persons on a scooter were stopped and Rs 30 lakhs was found in their bag. The men were identified as Ramesh and Hemraj from Barmer in Rajasthan.
Kaji said that the investigation is underway to know whether the money was part of a hawala operation. The men even could not give their local address. Police believed that they were going to give the cash to someone in the area. Investigation into the case is on.
