Abhishek Banerjee today resigned from the post as National President of All India Trinamool Youth Congress and has taken up the charge as General Secretary of the ruling party. Actress and TMC leader Saayoni Ghosh will take the charge as President of All India Trinamool Youth Congress, though Saayoni lost her Asansol South seat in this Assembly Polls, she managed to gain immense popularity among the TMC young workers.
Abhishek Banerjee was appointed as the party's general secretary during a meeting being held by party chief and CM Mamata Banerjee.
Besides, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has been appointed as the party's state general secretary.
The ruling party - Trinamool Congress was expected to carry out major organisational changes on Saturday, including a bigger role for Diamond Harbour MP and party chief Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, at its first organisational meeting since the astounding Assembly election victory last month.
The meeting was likely to take up strategies to counter "vendetta politics by BJPs central leadership" in the state.
A senior TMC leader had told PTI on Friday (June 4) that the party will focus on strategising on countering the vindictive attitude of BJP-led centre which he claimed was out to needle the democratically elected" Mamata Banerjee government.
The meeting is expected to be attended by all senior TMC leaders including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Subrata Bakshi, Saugata Roy, Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay, firebrand speaker Mahua Moitra and youth wing head Abhishek Banerjee as well as the partys campaign advisor Prashant Kishor.
