The former Minister of East African Community Affairs Maj Gen  Kahinda Otafiire has wondered why the assailants wanted to kill Gen Edward Katumba Wamala.

During an interview with CBS FM on Friday, Gen Otafiire said for the time he has worked with Gen Katumba, he has never seen anything bad about him.

“He is the only humble general I know, he does not indulge himself in quarrels with anybody, Katumba is like a bishop. So am wondering why they attacked him and even killed his daughter?” he asked.

“He does not go to bars, doesn’t quarrel and he is not in politics like us. So, I wonder why someone would attack Katumba. I have worked with him, he has no black spot. In fact, he might even be clean more than these preachers we have. Unless he had land wrangles or those who are fighting him politically. May be there those who think that he might win a big position in the next government.”

On Tuesday assailants riding on two motorcycles showered dozens of bullets on former minister of Works and Transport’s official army car registration no_H4DF 2138.

Gen Katumba’s car was intercepted by the assailants while on Kisota Road, which interconnects Bukoto-Kisaasi and Kisaasi-Kyanja roads while heading to Najjanankumbi, on Entebbe Road, for the funeral ceremony of his mother-in-law.

He survived with injuries however his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo died on spot.
