Pandemic disrupts Akula Sreeja’s Spanish era again

The woman’s best rower also had to go to Spain this year to play in the same tournament to play for the Santa D Eularia club base in Ibiza.

‘Last year I also got all the visas and documents and am going to leave my house at the airport to go to Spain. But then we got a message from the organizers to say that Spain due to the coronavirus pandemic. And the next day the land was in the lock. Also this year I was ready to go to Spain for the same league. I prepared my documents and applied for a visa in Mumbai. But due to the second wave, the flights from India to Spain were banned and the embassy stopped issuing visas from the same day. I missed the opportunity again, ”she advises.

With the increasing number of cases that forced the state government to apply lock-in, the rower moved to New Delhi last month to treat her sore shoulder, concentrate on mental strength and practice yoga. “I came to Delhi last month. I have this constant pain in my shoulder due to the overload. I also have two years of tennis elbow. Since Telangana State has instituted lockdown, I wanted to focus on healing the shoulder nail naturally and I joined the TAC Yoga Center. I practice yoga, meditation and spiritual training. My shoulder has improved a lot. “Once I return to Hyderabad, I will resume my training,” the 22-year-old, who is an assistant manager at the Reserve Bank of India, added.

Regarding the uncertainty over the calendar, she said: ‘I’m not worried about the disrupted schedule as it is not in my hands. But I work on things that are in my control. I just want to practice and be ready when the schedule resumes. Yoga and meditation have now calmed me down. ”

After Sreeja won the historic bronze among the citizens, she was the only Telugu girl to win a medal with the citizens so far. ‘The tournament is very competitive in nature and I lost in the final round of the preliminary round. But it was one of my best performances in international tournaments. I defeated players with higher positions in the qualifying rounds. It gave me a lot of confidence. Of course there is a lot to improve, ”she said.
