Gurgaon: The inmates of
Bhondsi jail received Covid-19 vaccine shots inside the prison on Thursday at a special camp organised by the district legal service authority (DLSA) along with the
health department. According to officials, around 115 inmates were inoculated while the remaining prisoners will be receive jabs in the next round.
Bhondsi jail, one of the largest prisons in Haryana, has a total of 2,545 inmates. Out of these, around 213 prisoners who are above 45 years of age have been vaccinated with both the doses. Around 400 prisoners were supposed to be vaccinated on Thursday but due to some technical issue only around 115 prisoners were inoculated.
District and sessions judge-cum-chairman of DLSA of Gurgaon, S P Singh, said that due to the spike in the
Covid cases, it is necessary to organise
vaccination camps for the prisoners.
As per the instructions of the high powered committee of Punjab and Haryana High Court, the consent form was filled by the prisoners in the presence of a medical officer, deputy superintendent of jail and panel advocate. Everyone was administered Covishield. After vaccination, all the beneficiaries were kept under observation for half an hour and all the necessary instructions were given.
