Around 200 tribals from Yeoor village in Thane district were vaccinated for COVID-19 after an independent vaccination centre was set open on Friday. The vaccination centre was inaugurated by Naresh Mhaske, Mayor, Thane Municipal Corporation. He said, "On the first day we vaccinated 200 people and the vaccination drive will keep going on till each and every tribal is vaccinated".
Mhaske said that the Yeoor village in Thane has tribal layers settled since many decades. "The tribals were scared and confused over the vaccination. Hence, they were not ready and coming forward for vaccination. However, vaccination for these tribals was important. So, we were conducting an awareness program at the tribal lays for the last ten days. The benefits and importances of vaccination in medical terms was explained to each and every tribal by Arundatti Bhalerao, along with her staff from Prarambha Kala academy, an non-government organisation," added Mhaske, further explaining how this people were unaware about the online registration for vaccination and also didn't come to the city for vaccination.
The demand for a vaccination centre at Yeoor was regularly made by local corporator Narendra Surkar, Parisha Sarnaik, Jaishree David and Ragini Bairishetty. "With regular demand, we kept following it to get it done. After we received a green signal from Municipal Commissioner, Dr Vipin Sharma, we set up the vaccination centre and vaccinated almost 200 tribal villagers on Friday", added Mhaske.
At the same time, the Thane Municipal Corporation has given permission for starting vaccination at 102 private hospitals. Following the central government guidelines, the vaccination will be started soon at 18 clinics and 84 private hospitals based in Thane.
