Chandigarh, June 3

The UT Sports Department has started opening sports complexes in a phased manner for national and international athletes.

In the first phase, the department has reopened the Sector 38 Sports Complex for trainees.

“A majority of the complexes will be open by Monday,” said Sports Director Tejdeep Singh Saini.

Before opening the complexes, the department will sanitise the arenas.

The trainees will be called as per staggered timings and training will be imparted keeping in view the Covid norms.

In the last war room meeting, the UT Administrator and Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore had allowed opening of sports complexes for professional players from June 1 onwards.

However, the department was asked to ensure implementation of Covid-19 protocols.

Swimming pools and gyms under the UT Sports Department are not allowed to open.

“The players have been allotted different timings. And to start with, only one training session (morning) is being organised. Players below 14 years are not allowed to practice,” said a coach.
