  • The redesigned iPad mini might be launched later this year.

New information around the next year's iPad models has come to light, and it seems like Apple will be bringing several important upgrades to the lineup. More importantly, the Cupertino based tech major might be looking to redesign its iPad mini model for a whole new look after a long time.

The iPad mini redesign will help Apple double down on the increased demand for its iPad lineup since the start of the pandemic last year. Sources indicate that this redesign will feature narrower screen borders and the possible absence of a home button. It is expected that the model will be launched later this year.

The timeline has been hinted at by people familiar with the matter cited in a Bloomberg report. The sources also suggested that the new iPad Pro might be launched in 2022 and will possibly come with wireless charging as well as reverse charging capabilities.

For wireless charging, the company is said to be testing its MagSafe system on the iPad Pro. The wireless charging will likely be slower than wired charging through Thunderbolt port, and hence Apple is expected to keep both the options on the next iPad Pro for its users.

Meanwhile, the company has also been hinted at testing reverse charging for the iPad Pro due next year. The capability will allow the iPad Pro to charge other devices, possibly including iPhones, AirPods and Apple Watches.

A design change for the iPad Pro is also speculated. It is being said that the next iPad Pro might come with a glass back as opposed to the aluminium enclosure used currently. This might be in line with the addition of wireless charging prowess on the device.

Other than working on the two mainstream iPad models, Apple is reportedly also working on a thinner version of its entry-level iPad meant for students. Sources suggest that the iPad model might also debut alongside the new iPad mini later this year.

The report clarifies that work on these iPad variants is still in the early stages and that the company could change or even cancel its plans before the launch. These are, thus, mere speculations until an official confirmation by the company.
