Fazilka civil surgeon Dr Parmindar Kumar said mucormycosis generally affects Covid patients but people who are Covid negative and suffer from sugar as well as other diseases are also vulnerable.
“Apart from this, mucormycosis can also cause a lot of harm to people with low immunity,” he said, adding that people should not spread rumors about the disease.
The civil surgeon said symptoms of mucormycosis include pain on one side of the face, nasal congestion, toothache, redness and pain in the eyes, fever, shortness of breath, headache, blurred vision and reduced vision.
Treatment of mucormycosis is done at a level-3 hospital in Faridkot and medical expenses are borne by Punjab government. Lack of coordination has hit the drive in Abohar, where no vaccination has been done for three days. TNN
