Yesterday (Thursday), Facebook declared in Italy villages, they’re planning to promote a programme – the digitalization of small and medium-sized businesses in an attempt to help them profit from an expected revival of tourism after the COVID-19 hit.

Italy is world’s one of the most popular travel destinations, and is currently easing travel restrictions on the hospitality sector. This would help the country to recover from the crisis.

Facebook under an agreement with the Italian Touring Club will provide online courses and other digital tools to 252 villages in Italy which would improve the business visibility like bed and breakfasts and craft products shops on online platforms.

Italy, which gets 13% of its financial output from the tourism sector, underwent a 64% plunge in the number of tourists in the initial nine month of last year, according to latest data by national statistics agency Istat.
