Telangana IFS Officer Sets Up COVID-19 isolation center for tribes

Hyderabad: The plight of some tribesmen who isolated themselves in an open field in the town of Mannanur, Telangana, because of their symptoms of COVID-19, came to light when the officer of the Amrabad forest divisions Rohith Gopidi walked through the forest, noticed that the villagers tents for COVID-19 isolation.

The Indian Forest Service (IFS) official realizes the need to set up a proper seclusion section with food, as he finds these tents are not suitable for quarantine.

Rohit Gopidi and his wife Padmini Patlolla enlisted the help of Apollo Hospital’s Social Responsibility (CSR) Division to make it a safe quarantine environment.

Within three weeks, all necessary permits were granted to draw up a 30-bed COVID-19 isolation facility for tribal people in Mannanur village near Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Nagarkurnool district of Telangana.

Telangana Residential Girls Social Welfare School and College has now been transformed into an isolation center where people have contracted COVID-19 is now being recorded.

About 4,000 people live in five villages in Mananur. The facility, with one doctor, four nurses and six volunteers, has been working with almost all consulting doctors since May 25. All patients here receive the necessary care, medication and nutritional supplements for free.

He added that the villagers mostly do not have basic facilities and that they thought it would be very useful if it provided nice food and space.

The Forest Department has deployed staff to rectify matters and help local residents get to the center.

Forest staff and local representatives experienced initial setbacks with people who were unwilling to act as support staff for cleaning and other activities. However, officials said Achampet MLA G Balraj was instrumental in mobilizing staff for the center.
