US mobile operators agree to provide vertical location information for 911 mobile calls

The FCC said it has reached an agreement with AT&T, T-Mobile US and Verizon about the provision of vertical location information with calls to the 911 emergency number. The information will help first responders quickly locate 911 callers in multi-story buildings. The FCC adopted rules to improve location information for 911 mobile calls in 2015. Under the rules, mobile service providers had to meet certain z-axis location accuracy requirements in the nation's largest 25 markets by 3 April and to certify the deployments by 2 June.
