Murder attempt foiled, 5 arrested

Thane, Jun 3 (UNI) With the arrest of five people, the city police on Thursday claimed that they have successfully foiled a murder attempt on the life of a complainant from Mumbra town.
One Sahabad alias Ramo Isshq Sayyed had complained about some persons from Rabodi of attacking him and an offence under sections 323, 504, 506 and 427 of Indian Penal Code was registered against them.
They wanted him to withdraw the police complaint, police said.
Acting on a tip off that the accused persons were to come to Mumbra to kill Sayyed, a team of Mumbra police laid a trap at Reti Bunder area of the town in intervening night of Monday and Tuesday and upon spotting them with weapons in an autorickshaw, they arrested five accused.
They have been identified as Nizamuddin Rahimtulla Shaikh (38), Mehmooz Zahir Khan (29), Shakil Khan (27), Moin Mehaboob Shaikh (27) and Imran Harshad Khan alias Bunty Gharya (38).
Police seized revolver, sword and chopper from the arrested accused.
An offence under sections 120B,188 and 34 of IPC and also sections 3, 4 and 25 of the Arms Act as well as sections 37(1), 135 of Maharashtra Police Act and Maharashtra Epidemic Act has been registered at Mumbra police station against them.
The local police are probing into the crime further, it was stated.
