PATIALA: Four labourers were injured after the roof of an under-construction building collapsed near Sanauri Adda area in Punjab's Patiala district on Thursday afternoon.
The building was being constructed illegally near Mai Ji Di Sarai, opposite the New Rehri market in the city.
The officials of the municipal corporation claimed that around 10 labourers were present at the spot at the time of the incident.
The district administration however managed to rescue the labourers and admitted the injured at
Government Rajindra Hospital and Vardhman Hospital.
The police said that a case will be registered under relevant sections of the India Penal Code after recording the statements of the injured. at Government Rajindra hospital in Patiala and private hospital.
Municipal commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur said, “I am unaware about the technical reasons behind the incident. Of the four injured labourers, three are sent to private Vardhman hospital and one has been admitted at Government Rajindra Hospital for treatment.
"The building was illegal and a showroom was being planned in it in an area of around 1000sqft. We had already listed this building in the demolition list. There are around six such buildings in the list that will be demolished,” she added.
“It is the duty of the area-inspectors of municipal corporation to keep a check on the illegal constructions. Besides, senior officials also keep a tab,” she said.
