Govt should take back increased fees of cattle fairs : Hooda

Chandigarh, Jun 3 (UNI) Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda says that even in times of recession , rising inflation and epidemic, the government is engaged in torturing the farmers and the poor.

Hooda has strongly objected to the new system made by the government for cattle fairs. He said the government has increased the fees of cattle fairs from 10-20 rupees directly to 1000 rupees and 4 per cent fee on purchase and sale .

This will put a heavy burden on the livestock farmers of the state. In the era of recession and epidemic, where every section is expecting some relief from the government , the government is engaged in recovering from them.

The government, which has already collected huge tax from the public, has now done the work of hitting the poor cattle farmers. Not only this, the government has given the responsibility of all the fairs to a single contractor. The Leader of Opposition has demanded an inquiry into it to find out why the government bypassed the government process to benefit the contractor. At the same time, he demanded that the government should withdraw the fee hike of cattle fairs.

Mr Hooda said the government has targeted the poor of the state along with the cattle rearers. First stopped the pulses, then ended the subsidy on gas cylinders, now from the month of June, they have also stopped giving mustard oil on the ration card. This time despite the record production of mustard, the government is not able to provide edible oil to the poor. In such a situation, the families dependent on the welfare policy of the government will have to buy mustard oil from the market at an expensive rate.

Mustard oil prices are at a record high at the moment. The demand for relief to the poor was continuously raised by the opposition. We requested the government to provide financial help to the needy and daily wage families affected by the recession. But on the contrary, the government is engaged in cutting back the reliefs already being provided. Hooda said the government should not only provide mustard oil to the poor, but also increase their quota as per the need.

Apart from this, Hooda has drawn the attention of the government towards a very serious subject. He said the government has formed a state level committee for the supply of black fungus medicine , which is operating from the state headquarter Panchkula. In such a situation, it is taking two to three days to reach the medicine at the district level . This delay is proving fatal for the patients. Therefore, the government should form a district level committee under the direction of the state level committee and ensure the availability of medicines at the district level so that the patients suffering from this deadly disease can get adequate medicine on time.
