Hyderabad: The appointment of consultants for the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) for the northern part of the Regional Ring Road is gaining momentum with offers that opened on Tuesday. As many as 20 consultants submitted their bids.
Although the bid was to open on May 25, the last date was extended by a week after poor response to the tender due to Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown.
The finalization of a business for the job will take about two months, as the bid on technical and financial aspects will have to be assessed, a senior official of the National Highways Authority of India told Telangana Today.
Officials in New Delhi would evaluate the offers and after a firm is zeroed in, an agreement will be signed and the contract awarded to prepare the DPR, the official said.
Home Secretary G Kishan Reddy said the Central Government would take the construction of the RRR at 17,000 million. “The state government has allocated more than 700 million in the budget for the project,” he said while addressing the media recently. Under Phase I, it will be built to connect Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Pragnapur, Jagdevpur, Bhongir and Choutuppal junction. This route forms the northern part of the RRR which covers about 180 km.
After the DPR for the first phase is completed, the focus will fall on Phase II, the southern part of the RRR which connects Choutuppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Kandukur, Amangal, Chevella, Shankarpally and Sangareddy, covering a distance of almost 160 km.
The state government proposed the RRR to provide better access to farmers to sell their products and to ensure connections between different districts with the state capital.
Apart from these factors, the traffic on the national highways connecting Bengaluru, Mumbai, Nagpur and Vijayawada will be facilitated once the RRR is operational. The Telangana government will bear 50% of the land acquisition cost to carry out the project.
