Chandigarh, June 2

Vice-President and Panjab University Chancellor M Venkaiah Naidu has approved three-year extension for Vice Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar.

The current term of Prof Raj Kumar is scheduled to come to an end on July 23.

A communication in this regard was issued this evening by the office of the Chancellor, Panjab University.

“Panjab University has taken a quantum leap in the last about three years. There are many first time initiatives which include integration of seven verticals SAIF/CIL lab, design innovation centre, CIIPP, skill development, bio-nest incubator, Institute Innovation Council, DST centre for policy research...,” said a PU spokesperson.

“Under his (Prof Raj Kumar) tenure, the university has ranked second in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) among Indian universities of the country. It has signed 37 MoUs with national and international institutions/industry. The faculty organised more than 900 webinars/seminars/workshops/conferences in last two years, along with more than 500 online events during Covid pandemic,” the spokesperson highlighted.

Usually at loggerheads with Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA), former Syndicate and Senate members, Kumar was unlikely to get the second term. — TNS
