Ghaziabad: Three people were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly blackmailing and demanding money from a
businessman who owns a factory in
Hindon Vihar.
The accused have been identified as Aparna Tyagi and her husband, Ankit, and
Ghaziabad resident Arun Ghosh.
Neeraj Singh, SHO, Nandgram, said Aparna and Arun used to work for the businessman, a resident of Ghaziabad, and they planned to
blackmail him after they came to know that he was in a relationship with a woman outside his marriage.
They installed a camera in his office cabin and gathered footage of him with the woman.
“Aparna shared the footage with her husband Ankit and he called up the businessman posing as gangster Neeraj Bawana. The call was made from a mobile phone that had a SIM purchased using a fake ID. Ankit told the businessman that he had video recordings in which he can be seen with his girlfriend,” Singh said.
Ankit also threatened the man and demanded Rs 25 lakh from him.
After discussions, the businessman told the caller that he was ready to pay Rs 10 lakh in two instalments, Singh added.
Later, the police were informed and the three accused were arrested.
“During questioning, they told the police that they thought of the plan after watching a TV show named
Crime Patrol. They had read about gangster Bawana in newspapers and thought of using his name to blackmail the man,” the SHO said.
A police officer said that they demanded money from the businessman as they were not getting their full salary for the past few months.
After a police complaint, an
FIR was lodged under sections 342 (wrongful consignment), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 389 (putting person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion) of the IPC and relevant sections of the
IT Act. All three were sent to jail after being produced in court.
