Karnataka extends Covid lockdown till June 14, announces Rs 500 crore financial package

The Covid lockdown in Karnataka has been extended till June 14. The state government also announced a financial package of Rs 500 crore for fishermen, priests, powerloom workers and others.

The Covid lockdown in Karnataka has been extended by one week. All the existing restrictions will remain in place till 6 am on June 14 in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.

No relaxation of curbs has been announced. The government will only ease restrictions once the case positivity rate in the state goes below 5 per cent.

FINANCIAL PACKAGE

The state government also announced a second financial package worth Rs 500 crore for those affected by the Covid-induced lockdown.

Power loom workers, fishermen, government priests and ASHA workers will receive Rs 3,000 each.

Earlier, the Karnataka government had announced a relief package of more than Rs 1,250 crore for those whose livelihood had been affected by the lockdown.

COVID IN KARNATAKA

On Wednesday, Karnataka recorded 16,387 Covid-19 cases and 463 deaths in 24 hours. The case positivity rate in the state was 11.22 per cent.
