India Today journalist Rahul Kanwal on June 2 hosted a regarding the developments in the case of the fugitive Mehul Choksi. During the discussion, Kanwal made a mistake that has gone viral and has attracted widespread criticism.
The panel consisted of Choksi's lawyer, a writer, and a Director General of police from Nagaland.
When the police officer, Rupin Sharma, was replying to Kanwal’s question about the possible outcomes in Choksi’s case, Sharma's screen went black and he said, "Rahul my electricity has gone off."
Kanwal replied, “Don't worry, you're in Nagaland, electricity goes off even in India, please go on speaking Rupin, we'll just listen to what you're saying."
Nagaland is a state in the northeast region of India.
This news has since gone viral and people are condemning the journalist.
One Twitter user wrote, "YouTuber was arrested for the same which means he needs to behind the bar. How can someone be this old and not know anything about this country? Shameful..."
Another wrote, "He also needs a lesson in geography. GoN should invite him to Nagaland soon #NortheastMatters."
