- The IPC said it would embark on a unity and renewal programme across the province.
- It had assessed structures in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
The ANC in the Free State, through its newly elected interim provincial committee (IPC), says it's ready for the local government elections.
On Thursday, the IPC said it had analysed and assessed the party's structures in the province, and concluded that it was ready for local government elections even though the Covid-19 pandemic had made it difficult to campaign intensively throughout the province.
ANC coordinator in the province, Paseka Nompondo, said:
The ANC in the Free State held its first IPC meeting from Tuesday to Wednesday after it was announced by the party's National Working Committee (NWC).
The interim structure was focused on the upcoming elections.
"The meeting dealt with a political overview by provincial convener, Cde Mxolisi Dukwana, PEC handover report, presentation of unity programme, update on Covid-19, the election of interim provincial working committee and deployment to regions for purpose of elections," Nompondo said.
The meeting comes after the Free State's PEC elected in 2018 was dissolved by the Supreme Court of Appeal and a decision was taken not to appeal the verdict.

The ANC said it had taken a path to renew and unite the organisation in the province.
"It is through that path that the ANC resolved to establish this interim provincial committee. The IPC members acknowledged and accepted their appointment by the National Working Committee (NWC)," Nompondo said
The interim committee said it would also apologise to the people of Maluti-a-Phofung for the decision taken to expel councillors fighting corruption in the municipality.
The NWC said it had decided to petition the NEC to reverse the expulsion of the affected councillors.
