Indore: Electricity employees in the state on Thursday threatened indefinite strike if they were not declared frontline workers within a week.

Office bearers of their association in Indore met energy minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar during his visit to the city and handed over a memorandum containing their different demands.

The main demand, however, was for declaring them frontline warriors in the fight against Covid-19. After meeting the minister, the employees stated that they had given one week's time to the government to decide on their demands.

They stated that they too are working in Covid-19 areas for ensuring the supply of electricity 24x7. “Yet there are no special arrangements for our treatment if get infected with coronavirus,” the employees told reporters.

They said that they would strike work if their demand was not accepted within a week.

Hundreds of electricity employees got infected due to Covid-19 across the state. Some of them even died of Covid-19. The employees said that those who died of Covid-19 should be given adequate compensation.
