UP launches free foodgrain distribution scheme

Lucknow, Jun 3 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government begun the distribution of free food grains to about 14.71 crore beneficiaries on Thursday.
The ration is being distributed through 80,000 shops under the supervision of nodal authorities, in 75 districts of the state.
The distribution will begin at 0600 hrs. To take stock of the distribution, teams of the district administration went to different places and inspected the shops.
“The ration distribution campaign will continue till June 15. The distribution is carried out by maintaining pandemic protocol. To maintain social distancing, each shop is allowed only five beneficiaries at a time. Online tokens have been arranged by the government for the convenience and safety of the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are being asked to sanitise their hands first before using the e-PoS machine.” an official spokesperson said.
The beneficiary is provided about 5 kg of free ration (3 kg of Wheat and 2 kg of Rice grain) under the scheme.
Manish Chauhan, Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies Department informed that the state has around 3.59 crore households, having ration cards of ‘Antodaya’ and Priority Households, covering 14.7 crore beneficiaries. For this, it is estimated more than 7.5 lakh metric tonnes of food grains will be distributed by the department.
