Focus Features has released a trailer for the aptly titled Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, which is scheduled for release on July 16. The documentary follows the life and career of author, chef, and travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain, who died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 61.
In 2019, it was announced that Morgan Neville (Keith Richards: Under the Influence, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?) would direct and produce a documentary about Bourdain. Following its release by Focus Features in July, the film is expected to air on both CNN and HBO Max at a later--though still unspecified--date. Check out the trailer below to get a sense of the movie--which features narration by Bourdain.
The film's official synopsis states that it "is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon." Bourdain began his ascent to that level on the strength of his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, a professional memoir and incendiary behind-the-scenes look at restaurant kitchens. Subsequently, Bourdain hosted several globetrotting series for Food Network, Travel Channel, and CNN--each highlighting the cuisine and culture of people all over the world. For many fans, his shows were a way to see parts of the planet they otherwise never would.
