A 43-year-old woman, who was riding pillion with her husband on a motorcycle at Worli, died after being hit by a speeding vehicle at Lower Parel bridge. In the collision, the woman, identified as Amirunisa Shaikh, was thrown away from the bridge and died on the spot, said police. Soon after the incident the police arrested driver of a cab aggregator company.
According to the police, Mubarak Ansari, 45 was on his way to Dadar Market on Monday morning around 6. As the couple drove on the bridge opposite Phoenix Mall, a car coming from opposite direction dashed their two wheeler. Mubarak was dragged along with the scooter while his wife sitting pillion was thrown from the bridge fell on the ground and died on the spot, said police.
The police immediately rushed them to the civic run BYL Nair Hospital, where Amirunisa was declared dead on arrival while her husband sustained multiple fractures to his hand on the chest and underwent a surgery on Thursday, said police
Soon after the incident the police arrested the driver Seharyar Asarar Khan, 19 and seized his vehicle. "We have arrested the driver under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304 A ( causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by an act which endangers human life) and 427 ( mischief causing damage) along with the relevant sections of Motor Vehicle act, " said Pratap Bhosle, senior inspector of N M Joshi Marg police station
