Agartala, Jun 1 (UNI) The police arrested two youths of Panisagar in North Tripura last night on the charge of gang rape of a 14years old girl in a nearby jungle last week in broad daylight.
However, another prime accused of the crime is still on the run.
The arrested accused persons were identified as Sanjoy Nath (25) and Shubhrajit Sen (27).
Police have been continuing to arrest the main accused of the crime Rajesh Rudrapal (27).
According to the report, the accused persons and the victim were known to each other. Rajesh and Shubhrajit had forcefully picked up the victim in a car on her way back home. They took her to a jungle and allegedly raped her for a couple of hours. The third accused Sanjoy didn’t do anything with the girl but he was outside the jungle to secure their safe passage, police stated.
The girl returned him after about three hours in an exhausted look, which triggered suspicion in her mother but she didn’t divulge anything. On the next day, she had fallen ill seriously and narrated the incident to the parents. The family complained to the three accused and shifted her to hospital.
“Based on the FIR, we have raided the houses of the accused and arrested two of them but one of the prime accused Rajesh is absconding. We told his parents that unless they cooperate with us to catch Rajesh, they will also be accused of helping the criminal.
Sanjoy and Shubhrajit are produced to court seeking their police remand to finish the investigation keeping them in custody,” said police.
The victim has recovered from the illness and was released from the hospital and the security of her and the family has been enhanced, police added.
