NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday recorded less than 3,000 new
Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, the lowest single-day rise in 34 days. The daily case count also continued the downward trend to 1.27 lakh new cases in a day.
Daily deathsWith 2,795 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's death toll now stands at 3,31,895, as per Union health ministry data last updated at 9 am.

India officially recorded nearly 1.2 lakh fatalities during the month (over 1,19,000), which was 2.5 times the toll reported in the country in April (48,768).
Daily casesMeanwhile, on Tuesday India recorded 1,27,510 new Covid-19 cases taking the national caseload to 2,81,75,044, as per health ministry data. With 18,95,520 active cases, India's active caseload is now below 20 lakhs after 43 days.
Positivity rate & recovery rateThe daily positivity rate also declined to 6.62 per cent, remaining below the 10 per cent-mark for the seventh consecutive days, while the weekly positivity rate dropped to 8.64 per cent.
Meanwhile, recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 19th successive days, as India witnessed 2,55,287 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the ministry said. The recovery tally of India has reached 2,59,47,629 and the recovery rate stands at 92.09 per cent.
Total Covid tests conductedAccording to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 34,67,92,257 samples tested up to May 31 of which 19,25,374 samples were tested yesterday.
Vaccines administeredThe Union health ministry informed that nearly 21,60,46,638 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
India recorded nearly 90.3 lakh Covid cases in May, by far the highest monthly count reported in any country so far. Although infections steadily declined through the second half of the month, the numbers overall were so high that the case count in May was 30 per cent higher than the previous record of 69.4 lakh, also reported in India in the month of April.
The worst month of the pandemic in the US was December when the country recorded 65.3 lakh cases. In total cases per million, however, the US count is 102,302, five times higher than India’s (20,144). The death toll from the pandemic in May was grimmer.
The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 170.5 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.54 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.
