Government of Tamil Nadu requested Chennai Port for handling of trains bringing Liquid Oxygen from various parts of the country at the railway siding inside Chennai Port as it will facilitate quicker movement of oxygen to the hospitals in Chennai.
In line with the guidelines of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Chennai Port has waived all charges for handling these Container trains and is providing all required assistance for the same. The first container train carrying oxygen was handled at the Chennai Port Railway Siding on 31 May 2021. The liquid oxygen received today in cryogenic vessels was loaded at Dolvi Steel Plant of Jindal Steel Works, Maharashtra. Chennai Port will continue to provide all possible assistance for bringing in the critical oxygen supplies to Chennai.
Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust inspected these containers being handled at at Chennai Port. Shri S. Balaji Arunkumar, IRTS, Deputy Chairman, Chennai Port Trust, Shri Karthikeyan, General Manager, TIDCO, and other officials were present.
