NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: To avert waterlogging during monsoon, the Noida Authority has started repairing
drains and re-boring
tubewells required to source groundwater for the city when the upper Ganga canal is shut for desilting. Seven vulnerable points have been identified in Noida and work is on at all those sites, officials said. Similar preparations are underway in
Ghaziabad, where 69 spots have been identified for waterlogging.
In Noida, officials said, a sump well is being installed at Dalit Prerna Sthal near the DND loop, one of the major areas to face waterlogging leading to traffic jams till Mayur Vihar in Delhi during monsoon rains, and work is expected to be complete by end of this month. Similar sump wells are being set up in Sector 19 and under the Mahamaya flyover road leading to Sector 44.
Gurvinder Singh, senior manager (water) of Noida Authority, said, “We have identified seven major points of waterlogging in the city. These include Dalit Prerna Sthal near the DND loop, the cloverleaf from Sector 44 road under Mahamaya flyover, Shiv Shakti Enclave in Sector 80, between A and B blocks in Sector 19, between D and E block in Sector 27, near Prakash hospital in Sector 33 and near Sector 62.”
While work on sump well installation at Dalit Prerna Sthal is 60% complete, Singh said that the remaining work will be completed by the end of this month. The Authority also aims to complete 80% of the work of re-boring 126 tubewells in the city by this month-end.
In Ghaziabad, GMC is gearing up to clean and desilt 500 plus drains across the city. “But the pandemic has thrown life out of gear, which is now affecting routine municipal work also. Now, we have just one month before the monsoon sets in. So, we have chalked out a plan to complete the pending work as soon as possible,” said Mahendra Singh Tanwar, municipal commissioner.
