European Processor Initiative releases first test chip for fabrication

The European Processor Initiative (EPI), a consortium of 28 partners from 10 European countries tasked with helping the EU achieve independence in HPC chip technologies and HPC infrastructure, has released its EPAC1.0 test chip for fabrication. EPAC (European Processor Accelerators) combines several accelerator technologies specialised for different application areas including the RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture, harnessing open-source resources at hardware architecture and software level, as well as ensuring independence from non-European patented computing technologies.
