May 31—Law enforcement authorities were seeking two suspects Monday after an early morning pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Boulder County's Gunbarrel area yielded a stolen handgun and a stolen catalytic converter, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office said in a news release that at about 1:30 a.m. Monday, a deputy observed a suspicious vehicle — a black Tahoe with no attached license plates — in the area of Williams Fork Trail and Spine Road. It was driving erratically as it left the area and traveled east on Lookout Road.

Sheriff's deputies followed it to the neighborhood at Lookout Road and Idylwild Trail. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle did not stop and fled further into the neighborhood briefly. A perimeter was established using patrol cars from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Colorado State Patrol.

A short time later, the Tahoe exited the neighborhood where it ran over stop sticks that had been deployed at an exit point. The stop sticks were successful as they punctured both front tires of the Tahoe, according to the news release. The Tahoe continued to drive back toward the area of Williams Fork Trail with deputies in pursuit and came to a stop on 63rd Street and Nautilus Drive after one of the tires became completely disabled.

The Sheriff's Office reported that once the Tahoe was stopped, two males — described as being Hispanic and wearing all black — exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A K-9 unit responded and a perimeter was established in the area.

The Boulder County Regional SWAT Team was deployed after approximately 200 rounds of handgun ammunition was located in the vehicle and there were concerns about the suspects being armed with weapons.

The Sheriff's Office said a thorough search of the area was completed by the use of drones, a K-9 team, and several SWAT operators on foot in the area. However, the two were not located.

It was discovered that the Tahoe had been reported stolen a short time before the incident occurred. Inside the Tahoe were two handguns, one of which was reported stolen; as well as a stolen catalytic converter.

In addition to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Colorado State Patrol, officers from the Boulder Police Department, and personnel from Boulder Emergency Services assisted.

Anyone with any information regarding possible suspects in this case is asked to call Boulder County Sheriff's Office communications at 303-441-4444.
