Days after bodies were found floating in rivers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, locals in Uttarakhand claim that half-burnt bodies are being consumed by dogs. As per an ANI report that quotes residents of Uttarkashi, dogs were seen eating the bodies of purported COVID-19 victims at Kedar Ghat.

"After receiving complaints from locals, we have assigned a person at Kedar Ghat for cremation of half-burnt bodies," Municipality president Ramesh Semwal told news agency ANI.

On Sunday, six more bodies of suspected COVID-19 victims were found floating in the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh.

Fatehpur Sadar Tehsil Sub-Collector (SDM) Pramod Jha told PTI that he was informed about the bodies floating in the river on Sunday morning, following which a search operation was launched.

The bodies could not be identified as they were highly decomposed, the SDM said, adding that they appear to have come floating from far-off places

Earlier this month, at least 52 bodies were seen floating at the Ujiyar, Kulhadia and Bharauli ghats in Ballia's Narahi area, reported PTI.
