Apple to open more retail stores despite more demand for buying iPhones online
Despite the success of Apple’s online store and the continued demand to buy Apple products online, the iPhone-maker has no plans to stop physical retail stores. Apple senior vice president of retail Deirdre O’Brien told Bloomberg that Apple is planning to open more physical retail stores across the world. According to Apple, while the online store is meant for giving a detailed knowledge of Apple products to buyers, Apple wants people to visit its store to get a feel of new Apple products and enjoy the shopping experience.

“On our online site people can learn a lot about the products; in a store they can touch them and get a feel for them. We intend to add more stores,” O’Brien told Bloomberg.

Apple has around 500 stores around the world and 100 in Europe alone. In India, Apple is yet to launch its own retail store.

Apple retail stores are unique in design. Last year, Apple Marina Bay Sands was opened and it is the first Apple Store to sit directly on the water. The all-glass dome structure offers uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic views of the city. The structure consists of 114 pieces of glass with only 10 narrow vertical mullions for structural connection. Inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, an oculus located at the apex of the dome provides a flooding ray of light that travels through the space. The interior of the glass is lined with custom baffles, each uniquely shaped to counter sun angles and provide a nighttime lighting effect.
