Police punishing violators during Mumbai lockdown

In it's continuous action against the lockdown violators, the city police have registered over 19,000 cases of lockdown violations since April 5, when it decided strict implementation of lockdown amidst the worsening pandemic situation in the city. On Monday, the police have registered 425 cases of violations taking the total number of cases registered since April 5 to 19,272.

Of the total cases registered on Monday most 136 cases were of mask violations registered against the people found without mask at public places, besides 122 cases of loitering at public places without a valid reason also registered on Monday.

The police also booked 106 shop keepers for flouting the norms on Monday, apart from this, 46 cases of crowding at public places were also registered.

The police have also registered six offences of illegal transportation, three seperate offences against hotel owners and hawkers for flouting the norms, two cases against pan shop owners and case against a corona positive patient who broke the mandatory quarantine rule were also booked by the police on Monday. Total 101 vehicles were impounded across the city which were found flouting the norms on Monday, said police.

The city police have so far lost 119 personnel battling the virus while 8,886 police personnel have contracted the virus so far. At present the department has 176 active COVID-19 cases, said officials.
