Ghaziabad: With declining cases, containment zones in the district have decreased to 515 on May 29 from close to 1,700 on May 7.
In just three weeks, the active cases in these containment zones have also decreased from over 10,000 to 2,051.
Areas such as Indirapuram, Kaushambi and Sahibabad have registered a remarkable decrease in active cases in the same period.
District magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said, “The daily cases in Ghaziabad are on a decline and with this containment zones have also come down. In fact, compared to May 7, the containment zones have also come down by 68% on May 29.”
He added that active cases in these containment zones have also come down by about 80% in the same period. “This can be attributed to lockdown and the vaccination process,” Pandey said.
The first 15 days of May were very alarming as in just five days between May 3 and May 7, Ghaziabad added 189 containment zones. Active cases in these containment zones had increased from 8,442 to 10,099 in the same period.
Cluster zones have also come down from 47 on May 7 to just 30 on May 29.
In terms of hotspots, Indirapuram had just 398 active cases on May 29 while about three weeks ago on May 7, active cases were 2,101. Containment zones in the township also came down from 43 on May 7 to 31 on May 29. Similarly, on May 7, Kaushambi had 27 containment zones and it came down to 13 on May 29. Active cases here also came down from 1,150 to 141 in the same period.
Meanwhile, the RWAs have also started following ‘Self Community Containment Policy’, under which they are voluntarily monitoring cases and implementing rules pertaining to containment zones. “We are collecting data on active cases from various societies and a team will be formed to ensure that Covid appropriate behaviour is adhered to,” said Alok Kumar, founder of Fed AOA.
