Requirements for Covid-19 Hospital in Nagaland
Kohima, 31st May 2021
COMPREHENSIVE PRESS STATEMENT
Ever since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) without any hesitation expressed its position that it will cooperate with the government in tackling COVID-19. And accordingly, it has been extending full co-operation to the government till date. However, it is discouraging to note that the PDA Government is unable to handle the pandemic effectively. The PDA Government keeps claiming that it is fully prepared to tackle the pandemic, but when we check on the ground there is hardly anything worth the name in the health sector especially on COVID related facilities.
Even the Naga Hospital Kohima and Dimapur Civil Hospital which should have been sufficient by now to cater the needs of the COVID patients if we are to go by Government’s version still lacks the required facilities. The below listed chart of the various Government Hospitals substantiates that there is acute shortage of basic medical facilities in almost all the Govt. hospitals which is quite contrary to the claim of the PDA Govt. on its preparedness to tackle COVID-19.
It is imperative to remind the PDA Government that, the Pandemic (COVID-19) hit the whole world including Nagaland by early part of 2020 and therefore it is expected of the Government to gear up at least after a gap of one year even if it could not tackle in the initial period of the outbreak of the Pandemic.
The PDA Government should have taken all possible steps after experiencing the first wave rather than running from pillar to post without any sense of direction to contain the Pandemic. The NPF strongly urge upon the PDA Government to provide the basic and immediate requirements highlighted above (the List in the Chart) to all the Govt. run Hospitals in all the Districts without delay in order to effectively combat the Pandemic.
It is indeed unethical on the part of the present Government to keep extending the Lockdown without any relief measures for its citizens especially the daily wage earners. The Party is of the view that Lockdown can be enforced if at all required but it should not be for a very long duration. It appears that the present government is least bothered of the hardships faced by its citizens because of the Lockdown.
The NPF while appreciating the effort of the Front-line workers especially the medical fraternity in tackling the Pandemic, urge upon the Government to look into the welfare of the front-line workers including the citizens of Nagaland living below poverty line as they are the most effected in terms of economy because of the state-wide lockdown.
